I’d posted this on my Facebook page as a Note. A regular post limits you to 420 characters.

We have a small lemon tree and two grapefruit trees (one large, one small) in our backyard. Both have fruit on them. Most of the lemons appear to be ready to harvest but I have no idea when is the time to harvest either lemons or grapefruit in Tucson. We’ve been getting pretty cold at night and had two nights down to freezing.

I tested one of the lemons and they appear to be mostly ready. Many of the lemons are small, key lime size but yellow. The grapefruit are mostly orange size, some slightly larger. Anyway they both appeared to be ready to harvest. The grapefruit tree had some withered fruit on the branches and a few had fallen off. When I went to pick the fruit they came right off in my hand. So this evening I harvested as many as I could reach, about a 1/2 bushel.

I harvested about a dozen lemons off that three but could harvest more. I could probably pick another two dozen but again they are tiny. So I’m not sure if I should go ahead and pick them or leave them on the tree.

The grapefruit fruit is white. I cut one open to test it and it was good.
